ESTABLISHED IN 1932
Image: three generations of the Smith family.
Smith Brothers’ Contracting Corp., established in 1932, has successfully worked with area contractors, architects and owners serving the Southern Ontario marketplace.
Current management represents the fourth generation of continual involvement of the Smith Family.
The company was originally established as a residential plastering contractor and has evolved into a fully integrated interior contractor. The company provides a broad range of construction services, including drywall systems, acoustical ceiling systems, demountable partition systems, sprayed fireproofing, spray-applied acoustical and thermal insulation and lath and plaster systems.
As the industry has evolved, so has Smith Brothers’ Contracting. The company now has the capability to perform all functions within the interior contracting realm. Projects range from small renovations to large-scale multi-million dollar contracts. The company’s diversification has provided the opportunity and experience to develop full interior contracting capabilities. We specialize in walls and ceilings; therefore new/renovated office space and industrial/commercial projects provide us with the basic work, which we do in conjunction with various other subcontractors. These subcontractors have worked with Smith Brothers’ Contracting for years.
The company has strengthened its management capability and has aggressively sought and completed work in this field.
The market for this interior contracting approach is clearly growing and Smith Brothers’ Contracting is growing with it. We provide the essential, basic building trades in-house and supplement the balance with qualified subcontractors.
As a service business, Smith Brothers’ Contracting prides itself in having a solid nucleus of skilled and knowledgeable tradesmen who have been with us many years and who provide the skill and on-site management to get the job done.
OUR HISTORY
Original Shop Location on Morley Street in Hamilton, ON.
1932 John Edward Smith Sr. establishes a residential lathing and plastering company with a very small operation from his home with his wife Gertrude doing the payroll in their kitchen.
Soon John Edward Smith is old enough to join his father and create a Hamilton based lath and plastering company working with the Local General Contractors in the area.
Original Logo from 1968
John Jr.’s sons Terrence and Richard eventually joined the growing company. The boys started to run the operations right around the time plastering started to be phased out and replaced by hard walls and then drywall. The company expanded and grew. The last of John Jr’s sons, Douglas, joined the company in 1980 as a field hand.
Logo changed to refelect the John E Son’s now operating the business.
Douglas grew with the company, eventually became president in 1998, and continues to grow the company into the future.
